Stock Show Anthem: Purple Banners

The stock show industry has always played a big part in my life. I started out showing pigs and then after some convincing, my parents let me start showing steers as well. My family has deep roots in farming and raising livestock. Growing up I didn’t necessarily think that raising show animals is where I was headed, but I did always know that I wanted to be a cattleman.

Sure, there are plenty of negative things that go on in the show industry, but for every one of them, there are 100 more positive things happening. Such as, learning to work hard, being responsible, how to win and lose, how to care for an animal.

The idea of the song came to me while I was clipping steers for a local kid. My buddy Kendall had been telling me for years that I needed to write a song about showing. That day while I was clipping, the ideas really started flowing.

I wrote ‘Purple Banners’, because I felt the Stock Show Industry needed an anthem. I know that I focused on cattle in the song, but the message rings true through all livestock journeys.

Purple Banners is available on iTunes and Spotify or listen to it here.

Be sure to watch for the music video COMING SOON!
